Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about protecting your intellectual property.

What is Global Copyrights?

Global Copyrights is a platform that allows authors and creators to establish cryptographic proof of authorship and creation date for their intellectual works. When you deposit or register a work, we generate tamper-proof digital fingerprints (SHA-256, SHA-512) and record them with a timestamp and your identity β€” creating immutable evidence of priority.

What is the difference between Deposit and Register?

Deposit β€” creates a timestamped record with cryptographic fingerprints for 1 year. Ideal for establishing priority without a formal certificate. Lower cost.

Register β€” provides everything in Deposit plus a full digital certificate with a unique verification code, public verification page, and 10 years of protection. The certificate is legally relevant documentation of authorship and date.

Can I upgrade from Deposit to Register later?

Yes. You can upgrade any active Deposit to Register at any time β€” without re-uploading your file. Your original deposit date and all cryptographic fingerprints are preserved after the upgrade.

Does this replace copyright registration with my country's office?

No. Global Copyrights does not replace official government copyright registration (such as the U.S. Copyright Office, INPI in Brazil, etc.). We provide cryptographic proof of existence and priority, which can complement formal registration. In many jurisdictions, copyright arises automatically at creation β€” our service creates strong, timestamped evidence of that creation.

What types of files can I protect?

Any file type. Books, music, photos, videos, source code, business plans, scripts, designs, research papers β€” if it can be saved as a file, it can be protected. Deposit supports up to 512 MB; Register supports up to 5 GB per work.

Is my file content kept private?

By default, yes. Your file is stored securely and only accessible to you. You can optionally enable public download for your work, which allows anyone viewing the certificate to download the original file. File fingerprints (hashes) are always public in a Register certificate β€” they prove integrity without revealing content.

How do cryptographic hashes prove authorship?

A cryptographic hash is a unique digital fingerprint of your file. Any change β€” even a single byte β€” produces a completely different hash. When we record your hash with a timestamp, it proves that your exact file existed at that exact time. This is admissible evidence in many jurisdictions for disputes about authorship priority.

How can someone verify my certificate?

Anyone can go to our public verification page and enter your certificate code, or paste your file's SHA-256/SHA-512 hash. The system will display the registered information including author, title, date, and protection status.

What happens when my plan expires?

Expired works remain in our system for reference but are no longer marked as "active" on the verification page. Your data is not immediately deleted. You may renew or upgrade before expiration.

How do payments work?

Payments are processed securely through PayPal. You pay once per work β€” there are no recurring subscription fees for individual works (institutional subscriptions are available separately). We never store your card or bank details.

Can I protect works created in the past?

Yes. You can declare a creation date earlier than today. The deposit date (when you registered with us) will be the legally relevant timestamp, but you can record the declared creation date as supplementary information on the certificate.
